Panels

Check totals, edit nodes and track down calculation problems.

Use the panel beside the canvas to switch between four tabs:

  • Summary: factory totals and requirements.

  • Inspector: controls for selected nodes.

  • Sub-models: what this model offers to other models, and the models placed in it.

  • Messages: diagnostics and failed operations.

  • Desktop: select one node to open Inspector, reopening a closed panel.

  • Mobile: selection alone does not open the panel; use Edit or Show summary.

  • Expand the mobile panel for more height, then restore it to see the canvas.

  • Resize the desktop panel by dragging its inner edge or focusing it and pressing left/right.

  • Close the panel for more canvas space; Show summary reopens it.

  1. Choose a section kind, then press Add section.
  2. Set its filters to answer your question.
  3. Add another section to compare views, including two of the same kind.
  4. Collapse a section to hide details, or close it to remove it.
  • Sections, filters, scope and panel width are kept with the saved model.

  • Search summary filters rows by name.

  • Copy summary copies the current scope and filtered results as text.

  • Check Components and Solved before relying on totals from an incomplete calculation.

  • Empty sections can mean no matches or missing results, not zero requirements.

For compact totals with precise tooltips, adjust Number formats.

  • Everything: the whole model.
  • Current container: nodes directly inside the container you are viewing.
  • Current container and below: also includes nested contents.
  • Selected: only selected nodes.
  • Selected and connected: follows connections through the chain in both directions.
  • Selected and below: also includes contents of selected containers.

Scope applies to added sections, belts and pipes, and unlocks. Mods always describes the whole model.

  • Output: starts with Unused, including open outputs and surplus left after connected flows.
  • Add Used, Sunk, Storage or Depot to include output sent to those destinations.
  • Input: starts with Unmade, the inputs with no incoming connection.
  • Add Made, Mined / extracted or Taken from storage to include connected supplies.
  • Output sink points: AWESOME Sink points per minute from flows sent to sinks.
  • Input sink points: what the filtered inputs would be worth if sunk instead.
  • Overclock: Power Shards and Somersloops used.
  • Machines: building counts, whole buildings and idle capacity where relevant.
  • Building limits show remaining allowance or excess when the catalog supplies them.
  • Costs: construction materials for calculated buildings in scope.

Power reports:

  • Average net power and minimum production minus maximum use.
  • Average and maximum use.
  • Minimum and average production before and after boosting.
  • Production boost percentage.

Production and net figures can show N/A for incomplete results or a partial connected scope. Try Selected and connected or Everything, then check Messages. N/A does not mean zero production.

These sections appear automatically when data is available:

  • Belts and pipes: lines needed for solved connections inside the scope, plus the busiest line’s load.
  • Unlocks needed: required milestones and research.
  • Mods: sources used by the model.

Click a linked part or machine name to select matching nodes and reveal the first match. This also changes selection-based scopes.

Select one node for detailed controls. Custom title changes its canvas name without changing its catalog entry.

Recipes offer clock, Somersloops and capacity. These settings share one card; the collapsible input and output ports sit outside it. Other controls depend on the node, as covered in Special buildings.

A fixed recipe count sets the downstream plan in Basic and Full. If a connected input cannot supply that count, Messages reports the missing amount while the downstream values remain visible. The recipe input displays its required rate; the connection displays the available supply. Add that supply to make the plan achievable. Manual mode continues to require balanced exact values.

For quick adjustments, use the clock input and clickable Somersloop pill in the node’s bottom section on the canvas. They remain visible when recipe details are collapsed. A locked node can still be inspected, but must be unlocked before editing.

  • Select at least two clockable machines to get a shared clock control.
  • At least two eligible recipes with slots also get a shared Somersloop control.
  • Bulk clock and Somersloop changes keep each node’s fixed building count, upper bound or Auto setting. They change only the chosen modifier and use one undo step.
  • Net power appears when available.

Once the plan is solved, the Inspector also lists the Power Shards and Somersloops the node needs for all its buildings, or the sum over a multi-selection. Each building above 100% clock takes one Power Shard per started 50%, so 101 to 150% take one, 151 to 200% two and 201 to 250% three. A building the plan uses only in part runs at that part of the clock: 2.5 buildings at 250% are two at 250% and one at 125%, seven shards in all. Somersloops are the node’s slots times all its buildings, the partly used one included. Hover a total to see the sum node by node. Nothing appears when the node needs neither.

Expand Input Ports or Output Ports to edit a port:

  1. Drag its handle or use the arrows to reorder it within its direction.
  2. Add, remove or change parts only where the node supports editable ports.
  3. Enter a nonnegative limit in the displayed per-minute unit.
  4. Choose At most for a ceiling, At least for a minimum or Exactly for a required rate.
  5. Clear the limit to remove it.

A limit on an unconnected port sizes the node. Move connections earlier or later to set priority in Full mode. An output with several connections gives each one a share field: the percentage of that output the connection takes. Leave it empty for Auto. Click an endpoint name to reveal the other node. Connection controls add or remove waypoints and disconnect one or all connections. Align to connection moves the node vertically, using the first connection.

Inspector edits apply directly and support Undo; keep them with the normal saving controls.

The first block reads this model’s own interface off the current calculation: every part its Model Input nodes take in and its Model Output nodes hand out, with the rate one copy of the model moves, and the power one copy draws and makes. That is what another model receives when it places this one. Interface nodes without a part or a settled flow are counted separately.

The second block lists the models placed in this one with the copies the calculation found, their power and revision. Click a name to reveal the node, open the model it stands for, or refresh one or all of them. See reusing a model.

Messages remains the diagnostics panel, including solver issues, building-limit warnings and failed saves.

  • Counts appear on the tab, and on the closed panel’s reopen button for errors and warnings.
  • Filter by Errors, Warnings or Notes.
  • Errors come first; repeated diagnostics are grouped with a count.
  • Click a message tied to a node or port to reveal its node, even inside another container.
  • Copy messages copies the filtered list as text.
  • Check filters before treating an empty list as a clean calculation.

Selected-data, missing-data and read-only notices stay in the canvas column without pushing down the sidebar. A long-running calculation shows Stop, which cancels it without changing the model.

If usable data is missing, editing and calculation pause. Use the header’s Game data control and the game-data guide to recover. Unsaved edits remain protected by the leave warning during this temporary lock. A failed Save and close keeps the model open. Choose Keep editing to resolve the problem; Leave anyway discards unsaved work. Saving device preferences in Settings does not save a locked model.
