Game data

Import packs, hot-swap an open model, and recover missing game data.

Game data defines the recipes, machines, icons, and rules used by the Modeler. A .kdata file is a data pack. A .ksfmd file is a model. They are not interchangeable.

The desktop app includes Satisfactory+ and Vanilla as separate packs, ready to use without an import. Satisfactory+ remains the initial selection. Updating the app adds Vanilla while keeping your existing packs and selection.

The web app includes Satisfactory+. Its Vanilla card says Included in the desktop version and offers the desktop download. It does not install or activate Vanilla in the browser. You can still import your own .kdata export in either app for a different game version or mod combination.

  1. Install KModelerExporter with the mods you want to model.
  2. Load a save in Satisfactory and run /modeler-generate in chat.
  3. Find FactoryGame/KMods/ModelerExport/ProductionModeler.kdata.
  4. Open the Datapacks tab of the Modeler home page and import the file.
  5. Review validation, give the pack a recognizable name, and create a new profile. Replace an existing profile only when that is intentional.

Keep the original .kdata file. It lets you restore the pack or move it to another device.

  • Activate: select the pack and stay on the collection page.
  • Ready to plan: select the pack and open model creation.
  • Active: the selection used when starting a new model.

Use the pencil on an imported pack to edit its name. In the browser, you can change its icon in the same dialog. Save applies both; Cancel discards the edits. Names need 1 to 64 characters.

Renaming keeps the pack’s data, active selection, and model bindings. No reload needed. The bundled Satisfactory+ and Vanilla profiles cannot be renamed.

An existing model can have its own saved pack binding. Opening that model is not the same as starting a new one with the collection’s active pack.

  1. Open Game data in the model header.
  2. Choose an installed pack. Use Refresh list if a newly installed pack is missing from the list.
  3. Wait for validation and switching to finish.
  4. Check the new results and Messages.
  5. The next save, including autosave, stores the new pack binding.

For temporary tests, work in a copy or turn off autosave first. Otherwise, an experimental selection can become the saved selection when the autosave interval elapses.

Switching keeps:

  • Nodes, ports, and connections, including missing recipe references.
  • Unsaved graph edits and undo/redo history.
  • Canvas position and zoom.

Calculations, catalog choices, and icons use the new pack. Results can change even when both packs report the same data version.

Choose Reload selected data to reread the current pack without reloading the editor. Use it after editing the desktop pack’s files or updating the installed browser profile.

Reload validates the data and refreshes calculations and icons. It keeps the same graph and marks the model as changed, even if the data version is unchanged. Refresh list only refreshes the pack picker; it does not reload catalog data.

Switching waits for saves, restores, imports, and other model-changing operations to finish. Editing, autosave, and solving pause during the switch. Autosave resumes afterwards if it is enabled and the catalog is usable.

If a model’s saved pack or pinned version cannot be loaded, the Modeler tries the currently selected pack. Using selected game data explains the fallback.

  • Compatible parts of the graph remain editable and calculable.
  • Missing recipes or items stay in place and appear in Messages.
  • Opening the fallback alone does not overwrite the saved model or its binding.
  • Normal save validation still applies. Repair missing references or switch back to a compatible pack before saving.

If the selected pack also fails, editing is locked. Choose another installed pack or import a valid export.

A failed hot-swap keeps or restores the previous selection when recovery can be verified. Otherwise, editing and calculation stay paused. Unsaved-work warnings remain active. Do not close the app expecting a failed switch to have saved it.

Browser: imported packs and their models stay in that browser. Clearing site data can remove them. Export both your model and the pack for transfer or backup. Imported browser packs are not uploaded to the cloud.

If an owned cloud model uses an imported browser pack, choose Save a local copy to keep the changes. The original cloud model is not overwritten by that local copy.

Desktop: Vanilla and imported packs use local game data and calculation. Unchanged Satisfactory+ can use current web data when online. To undo local edits to a bundled profile, activate it and choose Settings > Desktop data > Restore bundled data. App updates preserve edited profiles.

Packs are stored on the device. Keep your exports when moving between installations. Settings > Desktop data > Reload data is a different, page-reloading storage action; use the header’s Reload selected data for in-modeler catalog testing.

Cloud save and recovery behavior are covered in Saving and sharing.

Activate another pack first, then remove the imported profile from the collection and confirm the action. The bundled Satisfactory+ and Vanilla profiles cannot be removed.

Removing a pack does not delete its models. Those models may need the pack reimported, or they will use the missing-data fallback described above.
